7 arrested in Rutgers University social media drug ring

Seven people affiliated with Rutgers University have been arrested and charged in connection with a drug ring on the New Jersey campus, authorities said Thursday.

Former student Anudeep Revuri, 23, led the operation, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.

In a “22 Jump Street”-like plot, investigators said Revuri and his associates set up a private social media network for people in the Rutgers community. Once the operators verified a person’s affiliation with the university, the buyer was allowed to browse from a drug menu and place orders through the network, according to police.

Cops said they recovered “a large amount of marijuana, LSD, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, Adderall, Xanax, a large amount of U.S. currency and a firearm” when they busted the operation.

Revuri was charged with leading a drug trafficking network, a first-degree felony in New Jersey, and three counts of conspiracy to distribute drugs.

Joshua Duffy, 20; Zachary Petersen, 22; Catherine Tierney, 23; David Nudelman, 20, and Donovin Williams, 22, were all charged with varying levels of possession and distribution of controlled substances.

Nudelman was additionally charged with possessing a gun while committing a drug crime, while Duffy, Petersen and Tierney were also charged with money laundering.

Noa Lisimachio, a 21-year-old New York City resident, was charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
