Janet Kellogg Hodges Reid (American, 1894-1988), Paris Street Market, ca. 1925, oil on board, 18 x 15 inches, Huntsville Museum of Art Collection will be at Gadsden Arts exhibit opening Friday, Feb. 21, 2025.

This spring, the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum invites you to experience a stunning collection of artwork by trailblazing American women artists in “Impressionism by American Women,” organized by the Huntsville Museum of Art, and on view from Friday, Feb. 21, through Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Featuring paintings, drawings, and sculptures, this exhibition offers an extraordinary opportunity to explore the contributions of women who helped shape American art during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women artists going way back to the 1850s,” said Grace Robinson, Executive Director. “Working alongside Claude Monet and other great male painters, they helped revolutionize the art world and pave the way for all sorts of creative experimentation that followed.”

This collection brings together works that capture the energy and beauty of the American landscape, as well as intimate moments of daily life, providing a rich and engaging glimpse into a transformative era in American art.

Mary Proctor,

Three exciting exhibitions open alongside “Impressionism” on Feb. 21. The first is Black Women Artists from the Gadsden Arts Collection, celebrating barrier-breaking women artists from the American South as the museum joins Gadsden County to celebrate Black History Month.
