Bronx teen indicted for subway slashing of 17-year-old girl over social media dispute

BRONX, N.Y. — An 18-year-old Bronx man has been indicted for first-degree assault and other charges after allegedly slashing a teenage girl across the face in a subway station, prosecutors announced.

Antonio Romero was arraigned before Supreme Court Justice Kim Parker following a grand jury indictment. He is accused of attacking the 17-year-old victim in retaliation for comments she allegedly made about his brother on social media.

The incident occurred on December 17, 2024, around 4:33 p.m. at the East 149th Street and Grand Concourse subway station. According to investigators, Romero approached the victim and her friends with a knife and cut her from her left cheekbone to the corner of her mouth. The attack was caught on surveillance cameras.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where she received multiple layers of stitches for her injuries. Authorities said Romero admitted to slashing the girl, claiming he was reacting to an online insult.

“This vicious assault is another example of someone allegedly settling a petty dispute on social media through violence,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark said. “This is completely unacceptable, and this defendant will be held accountable.”

Romero is due back in court on April 25, 2025.
