Arts Update: Art market applications sought; Fort Wayne Ballet academy certified

Applications open

Fort Wayne heART of the City is accepting applications for the annual art market at Freimann Square.

The artist-led collective’s market previously operated on the opening weekend of Three Rivers Festival, which has been canceled for 2025 amid bankruptcy. But market organizers announced that their event will go forward from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 12 and 13.

“Our goal has always been to serve independent artists in our community,” board chair Daniel Church says in a news release. “We’re thrilled to return to downtown Fort Wayne in July to Freimann Square alongside the return of Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s Chalk Walk.”

Applications to participate as a vendor in the market close May 31. For more information, go to FortWayneHeartOfTheCity.com.

Auer recognized

The Auer Academy of Fort Wayne Ballet was recently recognized as an American Ballet Theatre Certified School.

Certified schools teach ABT’s curriculum, can host ABT events and present their students annually for affiliate examinations. The curriculum is a seven-level program that includes artistic training with the basics of dancer health and child development.

The academy is one of only 10 schools in the world given the distinction, according to a news release.
