Billboard recently dropped its list of Top 100 Women Artists of the 21st Century Chart, featuring some surprising names alongside the most famous stars. As expected, Taylor Swift claimed the top spot, thanks to her hit songs, strong views on women’s treatment in the industry and numerous achievements. Rihanna, who hasn’t released an album since 2016’s Anti, secured second place and Beyonce appeared third. Other top artists on the list include Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Pink, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Alicia Keys.
The rankings are determined by performance on the Billboard 200 album chart and the Billboard Hot 100 chart, both of which were dominated by Swift. Her last album, The Tortured Poets Department, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and set a record for the most Hot 100 hits in a single week. It also became Swift’s 14th album to reach number 1 position on the Billboard 200 chart. She now holds the record for the most No. 1 albums by a female artist.

Taylor Swift’s success goes beyond her songs. According to Billboard, she has won 14 Grammy Awards and is the first artist to win Album of the Year four times. She also made history with The Eras Tour, which broke multiple records. She also took a stand for artists’ rights by rerecording four of her first six albums.
When Swift was honoured as Billboard’s Woman of the Decade in 2019, she wished to make life easier for fellow artists and creators in the future. She said, “New artists and producers and writers need work, and they need to be likeable and get booked in sessions, and they can’t make noise, but if I can, then I’m going to. I know that it seems like I’m very loud about this, but it’s because someone has to be.”
In 2019, Mariah Carey made history as the first artist to top the Hot 100 in four different decades with her iconic song, All I Want for Christmas Is You. However, she now holds the 12th position on Billboard’s Top 100 Women Artists of the 21st Century list. Britney Spears is ranked 14th, while Billie Eilish takes the 15th spot. SZA, Avril Lavigne and Christina Aguilera are at the 18th, 19th and 20th positions, respectively.
