The X social network page of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala has been hacked. After that, fake posts appeared there, in particular about the “attack of Russian troops on Czech units near the border with Kaliningrad”.

On Tuesday, April 8, the X account of Prime Minister and ODS Chairman Petr Fiala was attacked. Fake posts appeared on the page. A fake post was also added to the Spolu coalition group page, which includes ODS, KDU-ČSL and TOP 09. The fake posts reported, for example, on an attack by the Russian army on Czech soldiers or on retaliation for US tariffs.
Despite all security measures, the Prime Minister’s profile on the X network was attacked this morning
ODS spokesman Jakub Skyva added that these accounts have two-step verification and other advanced security measures. “We reacted immediately and are working with experts to analyze the attack. A high level of security of our communication channels is a priority for us,” he said.
One of the posts published by the attackers before 06:00 referred to an attack by Russian troops “on Czech units near the border with Kaliningrad” and the deployment of NATO forces. The government spokeswoman said that this was not true. The Kaliningrad region is a Russian exclave, separated from the rest of the Russian Federation, bordering Lithuania and Poland.
Two other posts with “leaks” in Czech and English referred to the preparation of sanctions in response to new US tariffs. These posts disappeared several dozen minutes after publication. The contributions are written in an official manner, without obvious errors. However, unlike other posts in the Prime Minister’s account, they all contained a live video. However, each of the distributed broadcasts contained only a static image without sound.

In 2023, the targets of hackers were the websites of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic and other government institutions. Last year, hackers attacked the websites of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The attack on Prime Minister Fiala’s account on the X network will be investigated by the police. Criminalists will find out how the attacker bypassed the account’s protection. In addition, law enforcement officers will give a professional assessment of the placement of fake posts on the page of a statesman.
