DJ hosts women in arts showcase to celebrate Women’s History Month

The Madison Theatre came alive in the early evening of March 30, during “Girls Need Love 2,” an event created by DJ HollyW8D to honor Women’s History Month. The celebration showcased an eclectic array of musical and artistic talents, amplifying women’s voices in a vibrant and supportive environment.

Guests were greeted in the Albany theater’s lobby by a photo booth perfect for capturing elegant attire. The soothing, ethereal sounds of harpist Alexandra Chang provided the backdrop as attendees sipped drinks from the bar and browsed vendors’ displays.

Inside the theater, DJ Celeb set the mood on turntables, spinning hip-hop and R&B classics. The crowd enthusiastically joined in as Destiny’s Child’s “So Good” played, singing along and soaking up the upbeat atmosphere. The venue was buzzing with anticipation before the show began.

DJ HollyW8D, the event organizer, took the stage to welcome the audience and share the event’s origins. “Girls need love, too,” said DJ HollyW8D. “The first time we did ‘Girls Need Love Too,’ it was in 2020. I created this event because I noticed how little representation women had on lineups — sometimes only one female artist — that just blew my mind.”

The night featured 10 performances by a lineup of talented women. Here are some highlights from the night:

As the performances unfolded, artist Jessica June painted live in one corner, her strokes adding a visual dimension to the event’s energy. The evening, hosted by Coco, was a mix of music and comedy that took attendees through a wide range of emotions.

“Girls Need Love 2” celebrated women, their artistry, and creative flair in a way that felt meaningful and inclusive. Audience members embraced the chance to witness female talent in the spotlight, making the event a fitting tribute to wrap up Women’s History Month.
