Artsplosure to fill downtown Raleigh with performances, art market

The annual Artsplosure festival will be held in downtown Raleigh this weekend. WRAL is a presenting sponsor of Artsplosure.

The Raleigh arts festival features an art market with about 175 juried visual artists from across the country showcasing their works in ceramics, glass, fiber art, jewelry, metal, painting, photography and wood.

The art market is open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The market will open at 10 a.m. for shoppers who have accessibility needs. The market will be along Fayetteville Street from City Plaza to the Capitol Building. 

Artplosure new exhibits, installations

Each year the festival features a variety of interactive installations and exhibits. 

New this year, guests can enjoy an interactive sound bath in the Octaphonic Drift Garden on Fayetteville Street. Sound baths allow people to sit or lie down and be guided to listen and feel the vibrations of the instruments in an effort to calm their bodies and create a state of relaxation. 

The Song Confessional Podcast will once again have a trailer on site. People can step into the confessional located at the corner of Fayetteville and Davie streets and provide an anonymous confession on the spot to be recorded. The confessional might inspire a new original song featured on the podcast.

Another returning installation is the Student Art Show in PNC Plaza on Fayetteville Street. It will include art from Triangle-area middle and high school students. 

The Triangle Potter’s Guild and Wood Turner’s Guild will also be back this year on site on Fayetteville Street. 

The new interactive installation, Art Putt, is debuting is new course at Artsplosure. It includes a mini-golf course with each hole designed by local artists. The theme for this year’s course is SURRALEIGHIST, North Carolina. Each hole will include surrealist interpretations of all things North Carolina.

There will also be two stages of national and regional entertainment.

Kidsplosure activities include dance, music

The annual Kidsplosure section of Artsplosure will have art projects, activities and performances geared toward young artists. 

Activities will be happening daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will include making tissue paper flowers, bracelets, art journals, cotton candy, weaving forts, watercolor painting and LEGO printmaking. 

Performances will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and include a mix of Zumba classes, step performances, musicals and more. 

Kidsplosure activities are located at the corner of Hargett and Fayetteville streets.
