It’s unlikely that you’ve ever driven through the town of Skowhegan, Maine and didn’t see the giant 62 foot wooden Indian statue standing tall in the middle of town. Well, according to the Kennebec Journal, that statue is for sale, and for a hell of a price.
The Skowhegan Chamber is looking to give the old wooden Indian statue a new home. Tucked behind the Cumberland Farms near Madison Ave and High Street, it’s been standing there since 1969, and now the Chamber’s officially putting out the call for anyone interested in buying it and giving it a fresh start.
The Chamber’s been thinking about passing the statue along for over a year now, but they’re not just looking for anyone to take it, in fact, they’ve got a certain type of buyer in mind. They’re hoping to find someone who’s actually going to take care of the statue and keep it in good shape, preserve its history, and most importantly, make sure people can actually still see and enjoy it!
Along with their pitch, anyone who wants to take the statue off the Chamber’s hands has to lay out a game plan, like how they’re going to take care of it each year, how much that’ll cost, when they’re planning to get started, and even show a couple of past projects to prove they actually know what they’re doing when it comes to preserving a 62-foot-tall wooden Indian statue.
People can begin submitting their proposals to the Skowhegan Chamber of Commerce. There’s also a handy dandy PDF form that can be filled out along with each person’s proposal for the statue.
