Cody Rhodes has been on a hiatus ever since losing the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41. The American Nightmare has been one of the top stars in the company since returning three years ago. Last year, he spent most of the time as WWE’s face while carrying the top strap on his shoulders.
Rhodes’s popularity has been undeniable, and his relentless work ethic earned him the moniker of “Quarterback,” with WWE referring to him as its “QB1.” Rhodes embraced the nickname, being present for nearly every WWE event. However, following his defeat to John Cena, Rhodes is doing some introspection.
Cody Rhodes Moves on From the QB1 Nickname?
The “Quarterback” nickname had become part of Rhodes’ WWE run, with the former champion putting it in his social media bios. But on Monday, to the surprise of many, Rhodes had quietly dropped the nickname from his X (formerly Twitter) bio.
A post by FadeAwayMedia noted, “Former WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has removed ‘Quarterback’ from his bio.” For now, his bio reads blank.

Earlier this year, Cody addressed his status as the company’s top guy, bringing up his quarterback moniker.
“Yes, until you start getting into the actual X’s and O’s of like I don’t want anyone to think I can throw them a pass… I don’t know if I can do that, but in terms of winning this championship, they have very much put me in a position to run the play, to lead WWE. Triple H has been an outstanding mentor. If I’m the quarterback, the three head coaches are amazing, Triple H, Nick Khan, and The Rock,” he told Sports Illustrated back in January.
It is possible that Rhodes is gearing up for his redemption and, perhaps after losing the title, no longer sees himself as the number one guy in the company. For someone who has arguably looked better as a chaser than a champion, this could be the perfect comeback story: reclaiming his status as QB1.
WWE Not Turning Cody Rhodes Heel Anytime Soon
There have been discussions about turning Cody Rhodes heel in WWE. In fact, it was reported that The Rock initially wanted the former AEW star to join forces with him but was turned down, citing Rhodes’ popularity and financial success as a babyface.
Recently, it was also reported that WWE currently has no plans to turn Rhodes heel. With Rhodes being a top merchandise mover and helping ticket sales, it is clear to see why WWE wants things to stay this way.
The report also noted that the company has already laid out creative plans for a babyface Rhodes for the rest of the year.
