Aggression on Internet: Careers At Risk!

We are sitting in 2025 and the social networking has unfolded in ways we have never imagined. From Orkut days to Instagram reels, things changed drastically. Facebook was the first proper social networking profile at some point but we have transitioned from FB to X and other platforms. However, looking back at what we posted a decade or a decade and a half ago, it might seem silly, absurd, and weird for us. Thats quite natural as we grow with age, we gain maturity. But in Tollywood, this old immature and imperfect posts on social media is putting the careers at risk.

A recent example is director Vijay Kanakamedala, who is gearing up for the release of his new film Bhairavam. Back in 2011, the director’s FB profile featured a meme post, trolling Megastar Chiranjeevi and Mega Powerstar Ram Charan. Surprisingly, ahead of his new film Bhairavam, the old post surfaced online triggering hate and criticism against him, which also resulting in #BoycottBhairavam campaign.

Bhairavam is not director’s first film and he earlier made Naandhi and Ugram. At the time of these releases, no one discovered the old post on the director’s profile. However, the director posted a public apology to all the Mega fans who are brutally trolling him. The director acknowledged the post, took responsibility but added that his profile was hacked back then which was not convincing for many. We are not getting into the debate about if he posted it or not but it is now putting his project as well as his career at risk.

During one of the recent interviews of Bhairavam, Vijay revealed that he worked with Pawan Kalyan in Gabbar Singh and was supposed to work as a second unit director of Ustaad Bhagat Singh. Vijay even narrated a script to Pawan who later introduced him to Sai Durgha Tej, with who Vijay share a good bonding. The Mega fans are hurt with the fact that the director posted the meme on social media despite enjoying a good connection with the Mega heroes. They could not digest this fact and are aiming to bring down his latest film Bhairavam.

To address the question, why now, there is one possible reason. Vijay made a politically inclined remark during a recent promotional event of the movie which sparked discussion. His statement did not go well with YSRCP supporters who actually began the #BoycottBhairavam trend, followed by digging his old posts, where the controversial mega troll has surfaced.

There was another instance which is slowly picking attention on social media now. Director Vashishta who is currently directing Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Vishwambhara had liked a troll post against Mega Powerstar Ram Charan. It is also going viral on social media, with the fans expressing their hatred against the director. They were genuinely broken that the Mega family is giving opportunities to the people who are not loyal and engaging in criticism against them. Vishwambhara’s director has not opened up on this but it could also be perceived as a technical error since we also mistakenly like some posts on social media.

In another case, director SR Sekhar of Macharla Niyojakavargam also faced the heat from a section of audiences when one of his old posts supporting YS Jagan went viral. In the controversial post, there was abusive language against some communities. The director later claimed that it was morphed and even tendered an apology.

On a general observation, this happened a lot to Mega family. Actors like Posani Krishna Murali, Prithviraj, Jeevitha, Rajasekher and writers like Chinni Krishna publicly criticised Megastar Chiranjeevi and his family in a brutal manner. Despite all that, Chiranjeevi was kind enough to forgive all of them and move on. Most of those who criticised Chiranjeevi later regretted and apologized too. When Chiru was asked about how he could forgive, he just answered that he do not want to keep grudge and all but forgive them with a smile.

In the case of these young directors, sometimes, the agrression which comes with age, the over enthusiasm when trying new things and the immaturity at a certain point in life could sometime trigger us falling on the wrong path. But with age and experience, we are completely changed. When we look back, we sometimes feel that it is not us who attempted the goof up. In the current case, the director claims that his profile was hacked but also issued a heartfelt apology. The fans also must wear a sleeve of kindness to heart such that they also forgive them and move on as Chiranjeevi does.

The hate campaign can bring in nothing because the heroes themselves hold no grudges and forgive the very people who committed mistake. It is a natural cycle that happens. Also, in some angles, the mistake is not big enough that the careers get ruined. It is a matter of time and everyone makes a mistake but with time, everyone also realises it. Those who regret will always have a new opportunity to survive and those who do not regret will face the heat.

In the time of social media, the fan wars and the unnecessary pointless trolling must stop and the very fans must learn from he stars who endorse forgiveness.
