The “chroming challenge,” which inhales spray from social networking services (SNS) such as TikTok, is spreading, leading to a series of accidents in which teenagers die.

According to the British Independent on the 8th (local time), Lena O’Rourke, 19, who had recently collapsed and received treatment after inhaling a spray in Arizona, USA, was diagnosed with brain death.

Lena, a TikTok user, was diagnosed with brain death after failing to regain consciousness for a week while imitating the popular “Croming Challenge” on social media. The hospital said Lena’s cause of death was ‘Sudden Death Syndrome’.

The “Croming Challenge” is an inhalation of volatile substances such as sprays, which spread on social media and teenagers began to follow suit.

Experts warn that repeated inhalation of nitrous oxide and formaldehyde during the chroming challenge leads to hallucinations, as well as nausea, vomiting, seizures, kidney and liver dysfunction, brain damage, and speech disorders.

Earlier in 2023, a 13-year-old girl died in Australia eight days after falling into a coma after suffering severe brain damage while imitating the Croming Challenge. Last year, an 11-year-old boy died of a heart attack while following the Croming Challenge in the UK.
