ONE of Egham’s leading businesses has celebrated 19 years on the high street with a store relocation.
The Specsavers Egham store, which has been part of the local community since 2006, celebrated the opening of its new store at The Old Bank, 46 High Street, Egham with the Mayor of Runnymede, Cllr Margaret Harnden.
Customers, shoppers and VIP guests joined in the festivities, including meeting an ambassador from the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity Sue Rymer-Jones and her cocker spaniel hearing dog, Kristoff.
This significant store refit located on the site of a former Barclays Bank brings more 21st century technology to the optical and hearing business, as well as offering customers a more stylish and streamlined experience.
Sporting the very latest new back-lit units, in-store lighting and iconic wall mounts, customers can choose from the range of over 1,000 frames on display, including the very latest from the Elton John Eyewear Collection and favourites such as Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Kylie Minogue and Vivienne Westwood.
Cllr Harnden who was accompanied by her Consort, Mr Dennis Brown, cut the green ribbon which was followed by a short speech and toast to the team’s success. Retail Director, Helen Belkhodja said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome the Mayor of Runnymede, her Consort, Sue and Kristoff, our guests and customers who have joined us today for our launch celebration.
‘We’re thrilled with the new store, it looks amazing. We have significantly invested in upgrading our diagnostic testing equipment, IT systems and customer journey which means that we can now offer our customers an additional 14 sight clinics a week and five audiology clinics.
‘As a team, we pride ourselves on having provided outstanding clinical expertise and customer service to the community for the last 19 years, and we’re looking forward to many more years to come.’
Sameer Budhdev, ophthalmic director, said: ‘The opening of the new store marks a key milestone for us and is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with everyone here today.
‘Our latest diagnostic testing equipment provides customers with the opportunity to access hospital-grade equipment here in store, plus we offer a minor eye condition service including treatment of dry eyes, red eyes and blepharitis. So, this community eye care helps support our local GPs.’
Customers can benefit from state-of-the-art equipment, including an optical coherence tomography (OCT) machine. The 3D scan is an advanced diagnostic, eye-scanning equipment that can help detect eye conditions, including glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, up to four years earlier than traditional methods. Currently this diagnostic test is on offer for an additional £5.
Throughout June, Specsavers Egham is fundraising for the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity with its Paws for Cake campaign. The charity trains puppies to alert people who are deaf to important daily and life-saving sounds that they might otherwise miss, such as a doorbell, alarm clock and even danger signals such as a fire alarm.
The charity also helps deaf people to reconnect with life and leave loneliness behind, as life without sound can be very isolating. So do pop in store and say hello.
A dedicated hearcare centre offers a soundproof booth for customers to have their hearing checked, coupled with the latest micro-suction equipment for wax removal.
There are now three consulting rooms, two diagnostic testing areas and a contact lens station offering enhanced facilities to customers.
Specsavers recommend that adults have an eye test at least every two years, and children should visit every year. The NHS will cover the full cost of an eye test for anyone who qualifies. All children under 16, as well as those under 19 in full-time education, are entitled to an NHS-funded eye test.
