Fort Morgan embraces Global Artistic Collaboration with Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project

Fort Morgan is set to become a canvas for international collaboration as local artist Ann Iungerich spearheads the installation of a unique mural as part of the Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project. The project involves hundreds of artists who contribute individually painted tiles to form a larger, cohesive image of a tree.

The initiative, which celebrates the theme of ‘America Connects,’ aims to represent the global connections shared by individuals through art. Each artist paints a tile, which is then combined to complete a grand mural that symbolizes unity and diversity.

Iungerich, known for her passion for community art, contacted Mayor Kevin Lindell and City Manager Brent Nation to discuss the possibility of adding Fort Morgan to the project’s map. With a positive response and several suitable locations offered, Iungerich submitted an entry to the Global Roots Project and was met with the exciting news that Fort Morgan had been selected for the installation.

The mural’s dimensions are 12 feet by 22 feet by 24 feet and is scheduled to be unveiled in June 2024. The final date will be announced as the project’s tour dates are finalized.

According to their website, since its inception in 2003, Mural Mosaic has been dedicated to fostering unity through art. Invented by artist Lewis Lavoie, the process has produced murals throughout North America and, with the Global Roots extension, around the world. The murals inspire viewers to appreciate the beauty in our differences and the strength found in coming together. The Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project is more than just an art installation; it is a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring spirit of creativity that binds communities together, both locally and globally.

There will be 200 tiles that will be completed by local artists to complete the project which has to be finished and turned in by the end of April.

“People who participated in the mural will be visiting Fort Morgan to see their tile and take pictures,” said Iungerich. “They will be holding up their tile and saying, ‘I took part in this!’”
