Good news for users of X, the social media network formerly known as Twitter.Elon Musk’s purchase of the app triggered a series of changes that went beyond just changing the name.
One of the most talked about was the exclusivity of the blue checkmark, reserved only for the application’s paying subscribers and which, until then, was the identifier that distinguished the official accounts of companies or recognised individuals.
The measure was highly controversial, unleashing a significant amount of criticism from the website’s own users and becoming one of the most talked-about changes to X since Musk took over the company a little over a year and a half ago.
However, it has now decided to take a step back, at least in this aspect, and start to reinstate the blue checkmarks for free.
From 2,500 ‘verified subscriber followers’ onwards
They will be available, as in the past, to accounts considered to be “influencers”.
Musk himself announced the change in a post last week, although it was not entirely clear. As explained, accounts with more than 2,500 “verified subscriber followers” will be able to use X’s paid services for free, although he did not clarify whether this definition excludes users who do not pay for X’s services.
Some users have already commented through X that they have this function without having paid for it beforehand, but it is not yet clear how it will work.
The ambiguity in the words of the company’s owner, Musk, suggests that this function will only be available for a question of followers, so that the accounts of well-known people with a lesser following on the social network will not be able to enjoy it for free.
