VALDOSTA – The Turner Center for the Arts announces the multigenerational Glass Art 101 Academy sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Release:

Moody Air Force Base veterans, Valdosta State University Art & Design students, and Valdosta High School seniors are invited to participate in Glass Art 101 Academy, a multi-generational glass outreach program sponsored in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Glass Art 101 Academy is a 10-week program designed to introduce glass art as a career field and will provide 23 total hours of instruction in the historical art mediums of stained glass, flameworking, fused glass, and glassblowing to up to 15 participants. All instructional classes will take place at the Richard Hill Glass Studio, located at 506 N. Ashley Street, on the Turner Center Campus.

Applications will be accepted through Jan. 4, 2024. Each participant’s classes, worth $825, will be provided at no charge through the grant. Participants who graduate from the program will receive a certificate of completion and will have the opportunity to continue taking glass art classes at the discounted member’s class rate for one year after completion of the program.

Graduates will also be able to enter their works in the Turner Center’s 3rd Annual Glass Art Invitational Exhibit. The exhibit, set to open to the public on June 10, 2024, will provide graduates the opportunity to sell their works, while also exposing their works to thousands who visit the Turner Center’s Galleries cost-free.

The Turner Center continually seeks to introduce the potential career possibilities through the various art mediums available on its Campus and to support local artists in their pursuits.

“The participants in Glass Art 101 Academy span multiple generations with the purpose of building community through the creation of art,” said Turner Center Executive Director Sementha Mathews. “Through programs like Glass Art 101 Academy offered through national grantors and local sponsors, the various networking groups for local artists, and our gift shop and annual exhibits that feature the works of local artists, the Turner Center is committed to supporting our local artists and those who aspire to become artists—regardless of their ages or current experience levels.”
