Falls Art Market is one and done this year

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — An event celebrating local artists and their work is scheduled for Saturday in Sioux Falls.

The Falls Art Market is set to make its return to a Sioux Falls foundry.

“Artists gather on the lawn at BronzeAge Art Casting. It’s just a cool, relaxed morning, a lot of time to visit with the artists. It’s a comfortable, kind of neighborhood feel,” Falls Art Market organizer Lisa Myhre said.

The market will include dozens of artists and vendors, showcasing a variety of mediums.

“Potters, painters, photographers, there’s a gentleman who makes knives, bladesmith, but they’re very creative. We’ve got leather works, all different types of handmade things, original artwork,” Myhre said.

“I am mainly a mandala artist,” Sioux Falls artist Heather Cool said.

Heather Cool is a Sioux Falls artist who specializes in circles.

“It’s the art of creating concentric circles and creating patterning within those concentric circles,” Cool said.

Cool will be selling her artwork and doing live painting, and looks forward to Falls Art Market.

“For the camaraderie, to network, to meet other like-minded artisans, and to connect with community,” Cool said.

The Falls Art Market typically happens monthly, May through August, but this year it’s one and done.

“This has always been one of our most popular shows, we thought we’d just start the summer season off, have all of our artists here and then there’s so many other wonderful art events that people can participate now from when we started seven years ago,” Myhre said.

The season starts and ends on Saturday.

The Falls Art Market runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at BronzeAge Art Casting, which is located just east of Falls Park.
