AVON LAKE, Ohio — A new business is opening in Avon Lake that is bringing the love and passion of art to the masses.
As owner Alessia Lloyd says, being creative and doing something artsy isn’t about making something perfect. It’s about engaging your brain in a different way and, most importantly, having fun.
Lloyd is the proud owner of the newly minted Studio DaVinci, which will sit next to Salad KraZe at the 690 Avon Belden Plaza.
The studio plans a ribbon cutting for 10 a.m. Friday (May 24), although the space is currently open and fully operational.
The vision for Studio DaVinci is simply to bring art to everyone, and the studio plans to employ a variety of media where just about anyone can get creative.
They will have painting classes, scrapbooking and paper-crafting classes, jewelry-making classes, cookie and cake decorating and much more.
The class schedule is available on their website, www.StudioDaVinciDesigns.com.
“There’s no right or wrong way to create,” Lloyd said. “Creativity is intelligence having fun, and everyone should feel comfortable creating.
“We pride ourselves on outstanding customer service and excellent communication. We will work with an event host or birthday guest to plan the perfect celebration that checks every box on their list.
“We can customize any celebration or class to include everything you are looking for and give your guests a unique experience they will not find anywhere else,” Lloyd continued.
“We offer so many different projects and themes and we can offer suggestions to fit any budget.
“Our staff is friendly and knowledgeable, so even a first-time artist will feel prepared to create something special. We can teach new skills and methods or help a well-established artist hone their craft.
“We strive to encourage all guests to explore their creative possibilities, no matter their age or previous experiences.
“Anyone can be an artist, and we love to be part of the creative process.”
In addition to the regularly scheduled classes, Studio DaVinci is available for parties, team building and special events for up to 40 people in their studio.
They can even travel to someone wanting an offsite event.
They also offer a wide range of custom-designed apparel, home decor and jewelry.
Lloyd said the events can be a themed birthday party, a painting class for a dozen first-time artists or a beach glass class for Lake Erie enthusiasts.
“No matter the type of creative fun you’re seeking, Studio DaVinci is the answer,” Lloyd said.
“For so many of us, we’re in an office or working a job where you don’t really get that opportunity to be creative and express your creative side.
“You can’t be worried if something doesn’t look good or how it turns out. There’s all different ways to do it and tons of different avenues.
“Have fun.”
Lloyd attended Tulane University and the University of Toledo to study art and architecture. After earning her degree from Toledo, she completed additional art courses at a number of schools, including Case Western Reserve University.
And this isn’t her first foray into an art business, as she owned an art studio in Avon called Kreation Station that she closed just before the COVID pandemic.
“Which was a blessing in disguise,” she said. “I don’t know that we would have survived that.
“But I knew that I wanted to get back into the art business, which is largely exciting and very terrifying.”
She enlisted her friends as a de facto focus group to uncover what types of programs they thought would work.
And, as programs roll out. she admits she’ll “see what sticks.”
She also is looking to put together a youth summer camp of sorts for art-related programming, and expects to announce those dates on the website soon.
“I love networking with the local people here. This is such a wonderful community filled with so many creative people,” Lloyd said.
“I feel it’s all of our jobs to build each other up and support each other, so that’s something I really look forward to and enjoy enlisting all these great folks to share their ideas.”
Lloyd said she will continue in her day job as an administrator with a Cleveland nonprofit organization.
She also has been doing custom design work for 20 years, and she and her family have called Avon Lake home since 2008.
Her husband, Jason, grew up in Avon Lake.
“Studio DaVinci is a great match for this space,” Avon Lake Community Development Director Ted Esborn.
“This small plaza at the corner of Avon Belden and Pin Oak Parkway has a mix of businesses that provide a great variety of services to Avon Lake, and Studio DaVinci is the most recent, very unique, addition,” he said.
