CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo. (KFVS) – An investigation into the exchange of messages through social media between a child and a man leads to an arrest.
According to Caruthersville Police, a concerned citizen contacted them Sunday night, June 23 about a 41-year-old registered sex offender messaging a child through social media.
Officers began looking into the concerns and talked with the juvenile and her family.
Caruthersville Police said officers learned the suspect had been messaging the child through Facebook and Snapchat and were shown several of the suspected messages.
Officers believe the messages from the suspect exhibited grooming-type behavior by sending what they said were “flirty” messages and asking the juvenile to spend time with them.
The juvenile reportedly told officers the messages made her uneasy and she was concerned about the suspect’s intentions.
The suspect was arrested after he was interviewed by officers.
He was booked into the Pemiscot County Justice Center on a 24-hour hold on a harassment first-degree charge.
Police have not released the name of the suspect or the age of the child.
