With the Santa Fe Opera in full swing and the 20th anniversary of the International Folk Art Market taking place Thursday through Sunday, the high summer season has arrived in Santa Fe.
Expect more traffic, waits in restaurants, people filling downtown sidewalks and, yes, money spent in local businesses and tax dollars delivered to state and local governments. It’s the season where many small businesses make the profits that will see them through lean months before the winter season picks up.
So welcome, one and all, especially the international artists who once again are bringing the world to Santa Fe. This year, that’s about 167 artists from 51 countries. Forty-one of them are new to the market, including artists — for the first time ever — from Papua New Guinea.
