On the Civic Holiday, also known as the August long weekend, the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning is holding a pop-up market and open house on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024.

The arts hub, located at 370 King Street West, will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will host both indoor activities and an outdoor market, according to a release from the organization.

The outdoor art market will feature booths from Modern Fuel, the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, Muriel Aitken, Loving It Jewellery, Happy Buddha, David McAleese, Stone Jewellery, and June Lang. Indoors, visitors can attend open studios with fibre artist Bethany Garner and Indigenous ceramics artist Sheldon Traviss, who is currently a Tett Artist in Residence.

According to the release, Joe’s Music MILL will be open for the public to test and borrow musical instruments; and the Juniper Cafe is hosting magic shows with Ottawa-based magician Kevin Smith, as well as offering a cookie-decorating activity. In collaboration with the local knit and crochet group YarnGK, the Tett will also be offering a Yarn Storm activity where participants are invited to cover furniture in colourful yarn creations, the organization stated.

“We’re hoping to offer something for everyone,” said Brianne Franklin, Director of the Tett. “We’re excited to provide a fun opportunity for tourists and locals alike to experience Kingston’s vibrant arts scene over the long weekend.”

The Tett Centre noted that all events are free admission except the magic show being presented by the Juniper Cafe. Tickets for that event are available to purchase on the Juniper’s website.
