Harmony Korine, director of forthcoming thriller Baby Invasion, has shared more details about working with Burial on the soundtrack.
At a press conference at Venice International Film Festival over the weekend, the American filmmaker said he’d never actually met or spoken to the elusive UK artist. He didn’t reveal how they’d first connected out of “respect,” Variety reports.
“I mean, Burial’s amazing,” Korine said. “He’s a legend. We got in touch with each other, but I never actually met Burial and I never actually spoke with Burial. So it was all done through Discord messages, and we’d kind of talk on PS5. And then the music was sent through PS5.”
In the same press conference—during which Korine vaped and smoked a cigar—he also criticised the film industry, saying its obsession with convention drives creative kids to work in gaming or streaming. “Hollywood needs to encourage—they don’t need to, but they would be smart to—the youth, the kids,” he said.
Later that evening, at midnight, the world premiere of Baby Invasion was met with a reported eight-and-a-half-minute standing ovation. Burial’s soundtrack, according to Variety, was “thumping techno.”
No trailer for the film is presently available. Instead, watch Korine & EDGLRD perform at Boiler Room Miami earlier this year.
