Superior Schools: Social media threat deemed not credible

SUPERIOR, Wis. — There will be an extra police presence at Superior Schools Friday after a threat, that was deemed not credible, circulated on social media.

District leaders sent a notification about the investigation in an email to parents at 8:36 a.m. Friday morning.

In the email, district leaders wrote they were made aware of the potential school threat that was making its way around on SnapChat via the “Speak Up Speak Out” tipline.

Superior Police helped investigate and determined the threat was not credible.

“School safety continues to be our priority. There is an extra police presence within our schools today to provide an additional layer of assurance,” school leaders wrote.

“We encourage students, staff, and parents to continue to utilize our Speak Up Speak Out tipline,” district leaders continued. “Thank you to the students who shared their concerns through this tipline today to ensure our schools remain safe. Please remind your child of the need to speak up if they hear or see something of concern.”

Superior School District leaders say there was no disruption to learning.
