BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local organization is getting the word out about a resource for people with dementia and their caregivers.
Thrive West Central holds Memory Cafes in the Wabash Valley and one of the events took place Tuesday at the Brazil Public Library.
A memory cafe provides an opportunity to socialize. Dementia Outreach Specialist Amy Schorr said these events help prevent isolation by bringing people together.
She added that the events also provide activities.
“We can provide some activities. I’m a former teacher, so the activities are very low pressure but provide some things to try to maximize the abilities of that person and really concentrate on what that person can still do, and perhaps give that caregiver some ideas of how to pass those hours at home,” said Schorr.
There will be another Memory Cafe on Wednesday, September 18, at the Putnam County Public Library from 1pm to 2:30pm.
