A painting of Glen Fruin valued at between £3,000 and £5,000 will be auctioned this week as Paisley Art Institute is selling a quarter of its art collection after a dispute with Paisley Museum forced them to seek a new home in Glasgow.
Works by the Glasgow Boys and Scottish Colourists are among those being sold by Lyon and Turnbull in Edinburgh and online.
Highlights will include works by artists such as Sir John Lavery, FCB Cadell, Sir James Guthrie, Sir Joseph Noel Paton, EA Hornel, George Henry and EA Walton.
Glen Fruin is by James Whitelaw Hamilton R.S.A., R.S.W. (1860-1932), who lived in Helensburgh a was active among the Glasgow Boys group.
Signed, oil on canvas and 85cm x 110.5cm, it has an estimate of £3,000 to £5,000.
The Stonebreaker, is by Sir James Guthrie P.R.S.A., H.R.A., R.S.W., L.L.D (1859-1930), who lived in Rhu, has an estimate of £70,000 to £100,000.
Signed and dated ’95 and oil on canvas, it is 160cm x 106cm (63in x 41.75in).
Also on sale is A Continental Street Scene by James Kay R.S.A., R.S.W. (1858-1942), who lived in Portencaple.
OIl on board and 51cm x 35cm, it has an estimate of £2,000 to £3,000.
