Funding has been awarded which will ensure the return of a projection light display to York next year.
Colour and Light is sponsored by the city’s Business Improvement District (BID) which said council funding of £40,000 had been secured for the event to be held in March.
The free event sees a video projected onto 3D surfaces shown on a loop and has previously taken place at York Minster and the city’s Art Gallery.
York BID said this year’s event at the gallery attracted more than 200,000 people to the city centre.
A spokesperson for the organisation said: “Colour and Light has become a much-loved part of the York events calendar and we’ll be able to tell everyone more about the 2025 edition soon.”
BID was awarded £53,333 by the council from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
In addition to the cash for Colour and Light, the organisation said a further £8,333 would be used to support a York Retail Week.
It aims to promote local independent shops during the city’s Residents Festival in February.
A council report on the funding stated the events sought to strengthen the connection between the people of York and the city centre.
A BID spokesperson said they were being staged with the aim of attracting more people to the city centre and supporting businesses.
The spokesperson said: “We’re looking forward to a busy 2025 and putting on many events and experiences.
“In the coming months we will release more details about these exciting projects.”
