Logic Wants To Make Music Like Playboi Carti Because It Pays

Logic revealed to TMZ that his current rap style isn’t selling; therefore, he will begin creating music similar to Playnboi Carti. The outlet caught up with the 34-year-old rap star in Detroit when he spoke candidly about his new creative direction

“I’ve been on a run of doing super hip-hop music, but that stuff doesn’t pay the bills,” he admitted.

Reflecting on his earlier success with pop and party-driven songs, Logic revealed his plan to embrace a “turn-up” style similar to Playboi Carti’s. “I made my money doing pop and turn-up tracks, and I’ve been lucky to make music from my heart. But next year, I’m about to drop all this Carti-style trap and have some fun. It’s okay to make money, too,” he added, signaling a shift in his musical strategy.

Ultra 85 has been a long time coming, taking about eight years to reach completion. The project includes contributions from artists such as T Man The Wizard, DJ Drama, ADÉ, Lucy Rose, Zelooperz, and Robert Ivory. Initially teased as his possible retirement album in 2020, Ultra 85 was ultimately set aside in favor of No Pressure

This pivot led many fans to believe that Ultra 85 had simply been rebranded under a different name, but the outro on No Pressure’s “Heard Em Say” hinted otherwise, with a robotic voice announcing, “This concludes the No Pressure program… welcome to the Ultra 85 program.”

In an interesting twist, Logic’s latest musical inspiration, Playboi Carti, recently made headlines with a feature on Tyler, The Creator’s new album, Chromakopia. Though Carti’s contribution is exclusive to the vinyl release, it has piqued fans’ curiosity.

The rapper lends his voice to the track “Thought I Was Dead,” featuring ScHoolboy Q. He delivers his verse in a deeper tone over a beat of pulsing tribal drums. Although Chromakopia debuted on streaming platforms on October 28, only vinyl buyers were initially aware of Carti’s contribution. However, a track recording has since leaked online, drawing significant attention.

As Logic pivots toward a more upbeat, trap-heavy approach, fans will watch how his style shifts alongside evolving industry trends. This turn marks a strategic move for the 34-year-old MC, who’s balancing authenticity with commercial sensibility, ready to make waves on his own terms once again.
