Joanna Cabrera, a 36-year-old mother from Guagua, Pampanga, is transforming simple beads into holiday art.
Cabrera’s bead art stands out due to her creative use of wires, fabric scraps, strings, watercolor, acrylic, and oil paint to bring the designs to life.
What started as a personal pastime has become a business venture for her.
“Start kayo, pwede din kayo gumawa ng beads. Start kayo sa key chains, then after key chain, gumawa na ng bags at pwede din sa artworks… mas maganda yun [na] pampaalis ng stress at may libangan ka,” Cabrera said.
Her creations range from small parols to large, twinkling lanterns, many of which are battery-operated for convenience.
“So naisip ko why not gawing battery operated… at least dual purpose na siya, decorative na siya tapos functional pa,” Cabrera said.
These bead artworks, priced between P150 and P2,000, take up to two days to complete depending on size and detail, making them a unique gift idea for the holiday season.
