Below is the full letter sent to school families:
We want to inform you about an incident that occurred earlier today involving an alleged threat that was posted to social media by a Highland High School student. The FBI received information via Snapchat regarding a possible threat and in response, the FBI contacted the Medina County Sheriff’s Office.
It was confirmed that the referenced student was not on our campus at the time, and it was determined there was no immediate threat to the safety of our students or staff. Law enforcement officials responded to the home of the student who made the alleged threat, and the student indicated that the post was a “joke.”
The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending the final outcome of the investigation.
We ask that you take the time to discuss this situation with your student. It is important for all students to understand the gravity of posting threats, even in jest, and the potential consequences such actions can have on their education and the safety of our community.
Additionally, we stress the importance of students reporting any concerning behavior they may encounter, whether in person or online. Prompt reporting helps ensure everyone’s safety and allows us to respond appropriately.
As always, we encourage anyone with safety-related information to come forward. If you see something, say something. Safety reports can be made through our Stay Safe, Speak Up Hotline here.
Sincerely,
Catherine Aukerman
Superintendent
