Singer AP Dhillon has criticised his peers for claiming that tickets to their concerts sell out within seconds, calling it “a mere marketing strategy.” He alleged that musicians are being unfair to their fans by allotting tickets to promoters, who then sell them at higher prices.
Speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Dhillon said, “India mein abhi crisis aa jayega agar issi hisaab se chalta raha toh (There’ll come a crisis in India if things go on like this). Artists are being unfair to their fans by claiming that their shows were sold out within 15 seconds. Kuch bhi sell out nahi hua hai (Nothing is sold out). It’s all a way of marketing.”

The singer elaborated, “Promoters ko ticket de dete hain. Their fans, ab unko wait karna padta hai, aur higher price mein ticket khareedna padta hai (They sell tickets to promoters. Fans have to wait and buy tickets at higher prices).”
AP Dhillon recently performed in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chandigarh as part of his second India tour, following his debut in 2021. Reflecting on his experience, the singer admitted that he had considered using the same marketing tactics.
“At some point, humein bhi yahi laga (we also thought), should we play this game? But I’m like no, we can’t go to bed knowing that jinhone show dekhne aana tha, humne unke sath aise kiya (those who wanted to attend the show, we did this to them),” Dhillon shared.
The singer further claimed that even at a so-called sold-out event, he could still secure thousands of tickets. “You name it, koi bhi show ho raha hai jo sold out hai, mujhe batao, 2,000 tickets chahiye, kal hi dilwa dunga. Aaj hi dilwa dunga (Any show which is sold out, ask me if you need 2,000 tickets, I’ll get them for you tomorrow, or even today). Log music ko abhi game ki tarah khel rahe hain. So ussi mein mazza jo hai kharab ho gaya (People are playing music like a game. That’s sucked the joy out of it),” Dhillon remarked.
Although Dhillon refrained from naming any specific artist, many interpreted his remarks as a veiled criticism of singer Diljit Dosanjh. Tickets for Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati India Tour reportedly sold out within seconds in most cities where he performed.
