Republic Day 2024 celebrations, parade, latest news updates: As India celebrates its 75th Republic Day on Friday, January 26, 2024, all eyes are on this year’s grand celebrations with a parade on the majestic Kartavya Path amid tight security in the heart of the national capital where the country will display its military might and rich cultural heritage. President Droupadi Murmu will lead the nation in the Republic Day celebrations. “Let us all dedicate ourselves to serve the nation and fellow citizens in every way we can. My best wishes to all of you in this endeavour,” the President said in her speech on the Republic Day eve. “The 75th year of the Republic is truly a historic milestone in the journey of the nation in many ways. “This is an especially festive occasion, just as we celebrated the unique greatness and diverse culture of our nation during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, when we completed 75 years of Independence,” President Murmu said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted people on the occasion of the country’s 75th Republic Day. “Best wishes on (the) special occasion of the 75th Republic Day. Jai Hind!” India celebrates Republic Day on January 26 as its Constitution came into effect on this day in 1950,” he posted on microblogging site X (formerly Twitter).

The 90-minute parade, scheduled to commence at 10:30 am on Friday, January 26, will feature an all-women tri-services contingent for the very first time. The theme of ‘nari shakti’ (which means woman power) is likely to dominate the parade this year. Traditionally, the parade marches from the Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate via the Kartavya Path, and ultimately to the Red Fort.

The parade will be heralded by over 100 women artists playing Indian musical instruments such as sankh, naadswaram and nagada for the first time, instead of the traditional military bands. Around 15 women pilots will also enthrall the audience during the Indian Air Force’s flypast, representing ‘nari shakti’. The contingents of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will comprise only women personnel. The twin themes of ‘viksit bharat’ and ‘bharat – loktantra ki matruka’, will also be in focus on the occasion of the Republic Day 2024, which is likely to host around 13,000 special guests.
