Portrait of the artist as a young woman

ISLAMORADA — A young lady attended the opening of Andrea Munchmeyer’s art show at the Hale Gallery in Islamorada in November and stood out in a non-ostentatious way with a chartreuse fabric scarf over a white blouse. The newly-turned 18-year-old had gotten her driver’s license recently and had attended because she, too, is an artist and wanted to challenge herself socially.

Engaged in conversation, Claire Frances Collier of Tavernier said she was a multi-media artist. She said she had fashioned the eye-catching long scarf she was wearing out of material she had liked, and that she often styles her own clothing. On a plain tan pair of pants she recently had sewn a giraffe kerchief and further adorned her look with a large white flower and red string necklace. Shopping at fabric and thrift shops with her mother inspires creativity, she said.
