Isaac Hayes III, the son of the legendary soul singer, has come to the rescue with Fanbase. Founded in 2018, the Atlanta-based social media company allows users to easily get paid through the content they create and share, whether that’s photos, videos, or music.

Furthermore, for those who want exclusive content from their favorite influencers and creators, there are subscription tiers that range from $2.99 to $99.99 that allow you to further support the people you follow, according to the app’s website.

Although it’s encouraged for you to subscribe, it’s not required for you to enjoy the app. It’s free for you to follow anyone on the platform and it is free to download on Apple and Google’s app stores.

Users can also invest in the company. If you have at least $399 to spare, you can make an investment that will be “speculative, illiquid, and involves a high degree of risk, including the possible loss of your entire investment,” according to the app’s site.

While it’s a risk many may not be willing to make, it’s already worked for the app, as Hayes recently announced that they have raised $5.2 million from crowdfunding.

In May 2022, amid Black TikTok creators’ frustration with being overlooked by white creators, The Root reported on how Fanbase could be a great alternative. But now with TikTok’s ban eminent, it’s now growing as a switch for creators and users who want to enjoy a similar social media experience.

Currently, Fanbase is #7 on the Apple Store for social networking and #17 for free apps overall. On the Google Play Store, the app is currently #10 for social media.
