The Des Moines Art Center and artist Mary Miss have reached a settlement in a breach of contract lawsuit filed by Miss in 2024 over the art center’s plan to remove her artwork “Greenwood Pond: Double Site.” As part of the settlement, the Art Center will pay Miss $900,000 and the Art Center will be allowed to proceed with plans to remove the artwork in its entirety, according to a news release from the nonprofit Cultural Landscape Foundation. The artwork is located in Greenwood-Ashworth Park on land owned by the city of Des Moines and opened in 1966, a news release from the Art Center said. The settlement is available to view here.
