Job Description
In this exciting and creative role, the Marketing and Social Media Intern will be working with a dynamic and collaborative team at the Sault Downtown Association (SDA) Business Improvement Area (BIA).
The Marketing and Social Media Intern will be responsible for the execution and implementation of new and ongoing marketing initiatives. This includes social media communications, involved in the planning and execution of advertising campaigns, monthly newsletter, content creation, website updates, and managing relationships with SDA members and partners.
The Marketing and Social Media Intern will be committed to representing and elevating the SDA brand, increasing engagement, promoting small business and the downtown, impact sales, and boost website traffic. This internship will provide the candidate with the opportunity to build relationships with various businesses and organizations within the Downtown Association membership and bolster their professional portfolio. This role will help enhance the digital presence of the SDA, with a strong focus on community engagement and business growth for SDA members.
Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage social media daily communications (Facebook, Instagram, and X).
• Updating website content regularly.
• Assist in the distribution of monthly e-newsletters.
• Creation of dynamic and creative content advertising new and existing businesses and services as well as the promotion of the downtown area including video reels, photos, blog posts, and social media posts.
• Manage day-to-day marketing and promotion budget.
• Assist in the planning and execution of marketing and advertising campaigns.
• Provide monthly performance reports including relevant KPIs, i.e. follower growth, website traffic, and other key metrics related to campaign effectiveness.
Requirements
The position is funded through NOHFC, the candidate must not have participated in the NOHFC internship program in a previous employment position.
Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, digital media, and social media marketing are preferred.
Previous experience managing or involved with communications, social media, content creation, and advertising a business or organization is considered an asset.
Committed to providing superior client service.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
Reputation as energetic, personable, outgoing and motivated.
Ability to adhere to brand guidelines.
Proficiency with Adobe suite, Mailchimp, Canva, CapCut, Google Suite/Microsoft Suite, and Squarespace.
Graphic Design, Videography, and Photography skills are preferred.

Candidate Criteria
Candidate must be a new entrant into the workforce, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field.
Candidate must have not previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship in the 2020 Mandate.
Candidate must be 18 years of age or older.
Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Once hired, the candidate must reside in the Northern Ontario community in which they are employed.
Working Conditions
The position is primarily office-based with occasional opportunities for remote work.
Able to walk/move extensively around BIA area (Pim Street-Dennis Street along Queen Street).
Ability to travel outside the downtown area for marketing, training, or networking purposes.
Having a valid Ontario Driver’s license is an asset.
Having a vehicle to use is an asset (milage and fuel compensation).
