‘A Celebration of Art Queens’: Women come together to show strength

Chloe Trujillo is running around LA, setting up pre-production for her new EP, while balancing promotion for Punk Rock & Paintbrushes.

The show, dubbed “Strength: A Celebration of Art Queens,” features the wives and daughters of respected musicians such as  Harper Grohl (Dave Grohl’s daughter) and Heart Hera (James “Munky” Shaffer’s daughter) and Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale.

The exhibit runs through Tuesday, June 3, at Serj Tankian’s new Eye for Sound Gallery.

“It’s so cool to share this show with so many female artists. It’s a special women’s show,” said Trujillo, a Westside resident who is also the wife of Metallica bassist Rob Trujillo.

“There’s such a male-dominate world in a lot of fields. I’m exciting this is an all-female art show. We all support each other, joining forces. I just think it’s going to be great. I’m excited for it.”

Punk Rock & Paintbrushes is a niche art management company as well as art show production brand that creates art shows at galleries and music festivals across the world. It works with nonprofits using art as a tool to make a positive impact for all. The roots reach back to 2007 when founder Emily Nielsen asked friend Tim McIlrath (Rise Against) to paint a piece of art with the lyrics to the Rise Against song “Survive” for her after overcoming a battle with cancer.

The painting has traveled around the world with Nielsen and is an everyday reminder that “How we survive is what makes us who we are.” Today, Punk Rock & Paintbrushes manages artists across the globe who share their love of music and art, and brings art to collectors and fans from all walks of life.

“I’m so glad we’re hosting these amazing artists at our very own Eye For Sound Gallery,” Tankian said in a statement.

“Working with Emily and her team at Punk Rock & Paintbrushes has been a pleasure and we’re excited about showcasing this exhibition in our space.”

Trujillo has two pieces in the exhibition.

“I have two big pieces, which was quite a journey to bring them,” said Trujillo.

“We had a pre-production day in Orange County,” she said.

“It was a long drive for us. I had to borrow my husband’s truck. The pieces are 4 feet by 4 feet, and 4 feet by 3 feet.

“The message behind the work is the magic you create is eternal,” she said.

“It’s a piece that came to me. It’s very inspirational, the skuls and crows in it. The message is the magic. You create is eternal. It’s going to linger on and make an impact on whatever level. It will keep on keeping on. If I’m not present in the room, people visiting museums are going to relate to the message that I want to convey. I want to bring people joy.”

Trujillo said the artist reception was fun, as she met musicians and their daughters for the first time.

“I grew up and I had a lot of boys who were friends,” she said. “I realized now that I’m older, the importance of sharing things with women. That’s why I’m so excited to be a part of this. It’s a different vibe. I love Punk Rock & Paintbrushes. The world can be tough, so try to be a team and there for each other.”
