A school board in Quebec is investigating after a high school teacher was caught trying to sell student artwork online, for cash.
CTV News Montreal spoke with two angry parents who allege their children’s creative projects somehow ended up on social media platforms and were being sold, in some cases upwards of $150.
For example, one 12-year-old student at Westwood Junior High School in Saint-Lazare, claims that at least four of her art pieces were listed on different websites.
In fact, some of her drawings were found on a wide variety of items, like t-shirts, coffee mugs and even iPhone cases.
This all came to light after another student Googled the teacher’s name and stumbled on art that looked all too familiar.
“I’m extremely disgusted with this person. It’s extremely, you know, it’s unbelievable,” the girl’s father, Michael Bennett, told the news outlet.
Now Toronto reached out to Lester B. Pearson School Board which confirmed that it has caught wind of the allegations against one of its teachers.
“The Lester B Pearson school board is aware of the situation and is taking these allegations very seriously. An investigation is underway so the school board cannot comment on this matter any further at this point,” Director of Communications, Darren Becker, said in an email statement on Monday.
