ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Roanoke’s airport and art museum have launched a new collaboration, bringing 20 works of art to the airport terminal.
Wednesday morning, representatives of Roanoke Blacksburg Regional Airport, the Taubman Museum of Art and Local Colors opened a giant pop-up book created by artist Colette Fu.
The installation also includes work by other artists with ties to western Virginia, including Dorothy Gillespie, Ann Glover and Mary Jane Burtch.
“To me, this is our front door. This is where a lot of people have their first impression of Roanoke, so let’s show them a little of what it’s about,” said Roanoke Blacksburg Regional Airport Executive Director Mike Stewart.
“We’re excited to have and to showcase 20 works in this first iteration, because it will continue to rotate as we start this partnership,” added Taubman Museum of Art Executive Director Cindy Petersen.
The pieces are located in public areas, and most are accessible without passing through the security checkpoint. Representatives of the airport and the art museum said they hope the new installation will be part of a long-term partnership.
