Art market: Christie’s evolves its governance

The Board of Directors of Christie’s Auction House has appointed Bonnie Brennan to the position of Chief Executive Officer. She is expected to take up the position on February 1, 2025. She succeeds Guillaume Cerutti, who has taken up a strategic position within the Artemis holding company, the investment vehicle of the Pinault family and owner of the company.

In an announcement published on January 15, London-based Christie’s, the world’s oldest auction house (founded in 1766), announced the promotion of Bonnie Brennan to the company’s top management.

It is an honor to be named CEO of Christie’s and to succeed Guillaume Cerutti, who has been an inspiring and effective leader, building our business over the past eight years,” said Bonnie Brennan. “I have been fortunate to work closely with him and I am pleased that we will continue this relationship as he remains Chairman of the Board. The Christie’s global team reflects an unrivalled passion, talent and dedication to our customers and to each other. Leading this extraordinary group of people is a privilege I take very seriously. I look forward to building on our 259-year history of connecting exceptional works of art and objects with passionate audiences.”

Joining Christie’s in 2012, Bonnie Brennan has held a variety of senior roles within the company and has been instrumental in securing many of the works and collections that have helped Christie’s achieve its most celebrated auctions. In particular, she oversaw the sales of iconic collections including those of Ann and Gordon Getty, Anne H. Bass and Barney Ebsworth.

A true art market veteran with 28 years’ experience, Bonnie Brennan has been Regional President of the Americas since 2021. This strategic region now accounts for 48% of all Christie’s auction sales.

In recent years, Christie’s has also implemented a strategy of investment in new technologies, diversifying its offerings while attracting a younger, more diverse audience.
