A Reddit post featuring an unusual family art collaboration has left people in stitches.
Reddit user IveMcFallen shared a picture on the subreddit r/Wellthatsucks, of a half-complete sketch that was unexpectedly finished by the original artist’s 6-year-old cousin, who stepped in to “help” while they briefly stepped away.
In the post they said: “Left for 10 minutes, 6-year-old cousin decided to help.”
The sketch originally featured skillfully drawn, expressive eyes and eyebrows, hinting at a more refined and serious piece in progress. However, when the artist returned, they discovered their young cousin had added a cartoonish nose and mouth. The result? An interesting mixed collaboration.
On Reddit, the story quickly gained attention with over 47,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments from artists and admirers alike.
The majority of Redditors embraced the spontaneity and humor of the incident, telling the poster that it was a positive change. “It’s a masterpiece,” wrote PaleComputer5198. “I say frame it and give it to him on his 18th birthday or when they get married.” Another user, Nofunatall69, said: “Don’t worry, abstract symbolism is always en vogue.”
“I like it. It has an avant garde vibe to it. Better than some of stuff in galleries,” wrote
Icy_Entrepreneur2380.
“Don’t get rid of it, you’ll cherish this in 20 years,” agreed themanwithonesandle. While anitasdoodles commented, “lol I’d get that framed. That’s an awesome collaboration.”
In some follow-up comments, IveMcFallen explained that they weren’t angry about the art addition: “Contrary to what people think, I wasn’t upset about this. It made me happy to see her envision it in her way,” they wrote.
The poster later added: “It was cute, I found it sweet how she wanted to add her touch to it. She was telling me all of the details she added, like the tear and the frown with a tongue sticking out. I stupidly didn’t take it and asked about it a few days later. Her parents said they probably threw it out. Only this picture of it survives.”
This isn’t the first time a piece of art has gained viral attention on the r/mildlyinfuriating subreddit. Adam shared a picture of a destroyed sculpture on the subreddit after customs went into the parcel and broke a sculpture inspired by The Witcher books and games.
Elsewhere, other trending artwork mistakes have been known to have a slightly more permanent consequence. One young man gained viral attention for his tattoo that read “Think postivite,” a misspelling of “Think positive” that left him requiring a very postivite attitude.
