Beyoncé makes history as 1st Black female artist with No. 1. Country song

LOS ANGELES — Beyoncé has become the first Black woman to chart No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs.

“Texas Hold ‘Em” overtook Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’ “I Remember Everything,” which spent 20 weeks at No. 1.

According to Billboard, “Texas Hold ‘Em” drew 19.2 million official streams and 4.8 million in all-format airplay audience and sold 39,000 in the U.S. through Feb. 15.

A second newly released single, “16 Carriages,” charts at No. 9 on Hot Country Songs.

Beyoncé released the songs Feb. 11 after a Verizon commercial starring Beyoncé aired during the Super Bowl. The advertisement ended with the superstar saying “They ready, drop the new music,” She later teased “act ii” on March 29. (Beyoncé’s 2022 album “Renaissance” is frequently referred to as “Act I: Renaissance.”)

The two songs songs start at Nos. 2 and 38, respectively, on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

Beyoncé first appeared on Billboard’s rankings in 1997 as a member of Destiny’s Child, Billboard said. The group charted four No. 1s on the Hot 100 and two on the Billboard 200, beginning in 1999.
