BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn. — Some officials in Bradley County say the internet and social media is changing how they investigate threats against schools.
We told you yesterday how the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office is adding additional security across all the county’s schools after receiving ten threats so far in September.
They say this is in response to threats that circulated on social media.
Authorities say those threats were not credible.
Bradley County Sheriff Steve Lawson says social media will remain a constant, but they do their best work around the challenges it presents.
He made the comments on Mix 104.1 this morning:
“With social media, it’s so easy to put something out and people be alarmed, and we have got to get in front of that the best we can,” Sherriff Steve Lawson said.
“You have your kids who wants to make a threat of violence, but they want to share something that they heard, knowing that it’s probably not true, and that spreads like wildfire, and that creates more issues, because those are being investigated as well,” Zech Pike stated.
Sheriff Lawson says they have not made any student arrests in his county yet this year.
He says this most recent threat originated in Ohio.
