BYU art major runs business selling art centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ

Jasmine Isom, a senior art student at Brigham Young University, is combining her passion for art, business and missionary work into one creative endeavor.

Isom attributed the business idea to her mission in Pocatello, Idaho.

“The big thing that (my mission president) pushed was, ‘Use your talents to further the work of God,’” she said.

Isom sells art specifically centered on the values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“It makes me really happy,” she said. “When I do sell an art piece, I feel really happy and more proud.”

Isom’s shop, Jasmine Tree Design, sells original paintings, themed stickers and more.

Isom has about 50 purchases a month on Etsy and runs a booth at the Provo Farmers Market. She uses BYU’s screen-printing studio to create some of the religious pieces she sells.

“I’ve had a couple people get emotional and you can just see them connecting with a piece, which has really been really cool to see,” she said.

Her work has been featured in the Springville Museum of Art, BYU’s Weight Room Gallery and other exhibits.

After graduating this upcoming April, Isom plans to go full-time in expanding her business, she said.
