Cara, New Social Networking Site for Artists

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -The tension between online creators and AI companies is mounting, as virtually everything posted on the internet seems to be up for grabs for AI training.

Concern that Meta, the parent company of Instagram is training its generative AI tool on IG posts. It’s creating legit fear for musicians, authors, photographers and the like. Could they potentially be replaced by the very training system scanning their works?

Artists rely on apps like Instagram to market themselves and like most people can’t necessarily block their content from becoming a personal lesson for artificial intelligence once it’s out there in the digital world.

It’s leading to an influx of growth on alternative sites like Cara.

What is the Cara app?

While still in development, the lesser known social networking app has features reminiscent of Instagram. Users can share images, gifs, and customize their feed be deciding what percentage of post they’d like to see from people they follow, their network and the site overall.

Where Cara differs is with its AI image detector that makes it easy for users to find non-AI art. Perhaps the most appealing feature is the Glaze integration that’s meant to protect images from style mimicry.

The company has a clear stance on AI as stated on it’s website, “We do not agree with generative AI tools in their current unethical form, and we won’t host AI-generated portfolios unless the rampant ethical and data privacy issues around datasets are resolved via regulation.”

So far, based on online reviews, artists are liking it.
