Case booked over social media posts on MIM leaders

Hyderabad: Following a complaint from an AIMIM corporator of defamatory posts against their party leaders on social media, police have registered a criminal case against two accounts. The accused operating these two social media accounts are yet to be identified. One account was on Facebook and other on Instagram, police said.
MIM corporator Khaja Mubasheeruddin had alleged that the two accounts were uploading morphed content using photos of party president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, MLAs Majid Hussain and Mohammed Mubeen, MLC Rahmat Baig and several corporators.In the morphed images, photos of weapons were also used, he alleged.

The corporator said that the objectionable content had tarnished the image of party leaders and sought action against the persons behind the handles. Officials suspect the accounts were being operated by political adversaries of some of the AIMIM public representatives. The content was yet to be deleted.
Police have registered a criminal case under BNS section 336 (4) (forgery for purpose of harming reputation).
In the last three years, at least 168 cases have been registered by Hyderabad Cyber Crime police for objectionable content against persons linked to politics. Recently, GHMC mayor G Vijayalakshmi had also complained of defamatory content being circulated against her on social media.
