Well, Woman’s World has the secrets! Preivously, we connected with the celebrity makeup artists who made Rosamund Pike and Hannah Waddingham’s glow on the red carpet. Now, we have the secret to Helen Mirren‘s red carpet glow from her makeup artist Jo Strettell. She has curated skincare and makeup routines for older women like Maye Musk, Laura Dern, Cindy Crawford, and Meg Ryan in the past. Now, Strettell is sharing the secret to Mirren’s “Grecian goddess-inspired” look on the red carpet at this year’s Golden Globes.
How old is Helen Mirren?
The British actress is widely known for her role as Detective Jane Tennison in the TV series Prime Suspect, but she was nominated at the 2023 Golden Globes for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series, Drama for her role in the Taylor Sheridan series 1923. At publication, Mirren is 78-years-old. She will turn 79 on July 26, 2024.

L’orèal Paris products were used to achieve Mirren’s skincare and makeup for the Golden Globes. Here’s what Strettell used:
And here are the steps Strettell took to achieve the look!
“I prepped Helen’s skin with Age Perfect Cell Renewal Anti-Aging Midnight Serum, Revitalift Derm Intensives 2.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid + Caffeine Eye Serum followed by Age Perfect Cell Renewal Anti-Aging Midnight Cream,” Strettell starts.
Skincare Prep Serum for Older WOmen
Promising Review: “I am a 53-year-old Mother and Grandmother. I have noticed a visible difference and improvement in my skin since using this product.”
Hyaluronic Acid & Undereye Serum for Older WOmen
Promising Review: “Love it! My eyes were puffing as I’m getting older… 48 … my girlfriend recommended this product and I love it! I have recommended to my mom and other friends!”
Face Cream for Older WOmen
Promising Review: “Delivers advertised results. I use it with the serum and noticed a marked difference after the first application. I like L’Oréal products this one is areal high octane product. Worth the money. I am in my late 60s.”
“For foundation, I used True Match Nude Hyaluronic Tinted Serum Foundation in Rich Medium followed by Infallible Full Wear Concealer up to 24H Full Coverage in #360,” Strettell continues.
Foundation for Older Women
Promising Review: “I have worn more expensive foundation for years! I thought I would give this a try because it made sense to me. I’m about to turn 50 and my skin needs more moisture. This stuff is GREAT!! It’s also the perfect amount of thickness, not too heavy and not too watery either! Highly recommend!!”
Concealer for Older Women
Promising Review: “I have very bad hereditary dark circles and this is by far the best concealer for coverage. I usually color correct as well, but I could go without. I will say, if you have dry under eyes, use a very hydrating moisturizer (I like the Clinique all about eyes rich).”
“Next, using Age Perfect Creamy Powder Foundation in #320, I lightly dusted over the foundation across the T-zone area,” Strettell explains.
Powder Foundation for Older Women
Promising Review: “I really love this product because its really nice and smooth on my skin and doesn’t look [cakey]. The color is absolutely perfect for my skin tone. I don’t need to use foundation and powder because this product combines 2 in 1. The Ceramicide helps to fill in lines without caking on the skin, great for older women.It leaves the skin with satin, shine free finish. Now this is my favorite make up product.”
Strettell adds: “For the brows I used Brow Stylist Brow Definer Mechanical Waterproof Eyebrow Pencil in Ash Brown.”
Brow Pencil for Older Women
Promising Review: “I used the L’Oréal Brow Stylist Definer on my mom and on myself, and we both love it! I applied the liner just lightly at first, then I used the brush at the other end to fade the color into the natural brow. My mom is older and she also said it worked without any problems and we both agreed that it glided very well so it is very easy to apply and understand how to use the brush at the opposite end of the liner.”
Up next, the eyes. “Using Infallible Never Fail Original Mechanical Pencil Eyeliner in Slate I ran the pencil along the lash line top and bottom and smudged with a small eye shadow brush to create a soft smoky liner,” Strettell shares.
Eyeliner for Older Women
Promising Review: “I have used this for years. It’s the best I can find to go on smoothly without pressing to hard, and not tug at my delicate skin. I apply it after my eyeshadow. It also seems to be pretty waterproof in spite of my watering eyes and fair skin.”
Strettell continued on Mirren’s eyes with Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow #207 in Pain Au Chocolate. “[Using] an eye shadow brush, I swept the color across the outer part of eyelid and under the eye and then blended the edges to create a shimmery yet soft smokey eye.”
Eyeshadow for Older Women
Promising Review: “Love love love this beautiful L’Oreal eye shadow! Have been wearing this one ever since it came out and I SIMPLY LOVE IT! Always fear it will be discontinued, so I normally order a couple at a time! This matte shade is perfect for under the brow highlighting – its long-lasting, flawless matte formula is exactly what I love! The ‘pearl’ formulas are not a friend to us ‘older’ ladies, so I very much appreciate that some still make the much-coveted matte shades!“
Strettell followed that with the Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in #408. “I placed over the eye liner to brighten and swept across the outer part of lid for a little more glow,” Strettell reveals. She also added a “sweep” of Infallible Paints Metallics Eye Shadow in #400 from the “inside to middle of [Mirren’s] lid.”
Metallic Eyeshadow for Older Women
Promising Review: “It comes in a very convenient container, it’s not too big in size so I can carry it with me everywhere. It has a very smooth textured application with brilliant shine I absolutely loved it! The color made my eyes pop!”
Strettelli finished Mirren’s eyes with Infallible Grip Precision Felt Eyeliner #610 Grey. “I painted in-between lashes and finely along lash line top and bottom to sharpen the eye liner and thicken the lash line area,” she says.

Promising Review: “I am super picky about makeup and the color, wearability and application are great.”
Strettell also curled Mirren’s lashes and added Telescopic Original Mascara to the top and bottom. “To brighten and open the eye, I used Infallible Grip Mechanical Gel Eyeliner in the lower eye waterline,” Stratell mentions.

Promising Review: “I’m older and have a hard time putting mascara on that has a fat brush. This is very slender and I can control it better. Plus, being L’Oréal it doesn’t bother my eyes. Happy customer.”

Promising Review: “Great precision and long lasting. The color really goes on well and doesn’t smudge.”
“For the cheeks I used Infallible Up to 24H Fresh Wear Soft Matte Blush in #15 Legendary Berry,” Strettell continues.
Powder Blush for Older Women
Promising Review: “Oh my goodness!! I was not expecting to receive such an amazing product. This L’Oreal infallible blush has changed my blush game. I received the shade 10- confident pink, and it is just the brightest best summer color ever! I literally will barely press my blush brush into the powder, and it will be more than enough that I need for just one cheek. I know everyone is talking about how cream blushes are the move, but this powder blush will EASILY change your mind.”
She concludes: “Next to create a Soft Plum Lip I lined Helen’s Lips with Colour Riche Lip Liner in Lasting Plum and Age Perfect Satin Lipstick in #210.”
