Cheb Khaled, Wizkid, Amr Diab lead list of Africa’s best-selling music artistes of all time

Africa’s vibrant music scene continues to capture global attention, and a newly released list from Africa Facts Zone has revealed the continent’s top-selling music artistes of all time—celebrating those who have moved millions of music lovers worldwide with their unique sound, style, and storytelling.

Topping the list is Algeria’s Cheb Khaled, often hailed as the “King of Rai”, who boasts an impressive 81 million units sold globally.

His pioneering fusion of traditional Algerian music with modern pop and rock elements has made him an enduring icon in world music.

Coming in second is Nigeria’s Wizkid, one of the most influential Afrobeats artistes of the 21st century, with 65 million units sold. His global success includes collaborations with international stars such as Drake, Beyoncé, and Justin Bieber, cementing his place as a key player in the global music industry.

Egypt’s Amr Diab, a superstar in the Arab music world, ranks third with 50 million units sold, thanks to his unmatched longevity and cross-generational appeal. His blend of Egyptian pop with Western styles has resonated with fans across the Middle East and beyond.

Following closely is Burna Boy, another Nigerian Afrobeats titan with 45 million units sold. Known for his Grammy-winning album “Twice As Tall” and socially conscious lyrics, Burna Boy has become a symbol of modern African music excellence.

  • D’banj (Nigeria) – 20 million+

  • Tyla (South Africa) – 13 million+

  • Prince Nico Mbarga (Cameroon/Nigeria) – 13 million

The list highlights Nigeria’s dominance, with nine artistes making the cut, showing the global rise of Afrobeats and the country’s vast musical influence. From trailblazers like D’banj and 2Baba to Gen Z breakout stars like Tems and Tyla, African artistes continue to reshape the global music narrative.
