David Caruso’s new life, from ‘CSI: Miami’ star to unrecognizable and dedicated to the art business

The golden age of daytime crime dramas reached its peak with CSI: Miami, a spin-off that existed in the same universe as its predecessor, CSI: Las Vegas, and its successor, CSI: New York.

While all three aired simultaneously, CSI: Miami managed to stand out with its gripping forensic investigations set in the city’s police crime lab. Week after week, audiences were captivated by the meticulous crime scene analysis and psychological intrigue that defined the series.

Beyond its entertainment value, the show had a real-world impact: college enrollment in criminology programs skyrocketed. At the center of it all was the iconic Lieutenant Horatio Caine—known simply as “H”—portrayed by David Caruso. The show’s popularity was staggering. According to a 2006 Reuters study, CSI: Miami became the most-watched television series in the world.

Caruso’s Life After CSI: Miami

The show came to an end in 2011, and Caruso, once one of the most recognizable faces on TV, largely disappeared from the public eye. Over the past 15 years, sightings of him have been rare. He was seen at Los Angeles International Airport with his children in June 2017, and again in 2023, walking near his home in California’s San Fernando Valley with a woman.

At nearly 70 years old, Caruso looks noticeably different from his days as the sharp-dressed, ever-cool Horatio Caine. His signature polished appearance has given way to a more unkempt look—long, tousled hair and a fuller figure.

But while his appearance may have changed, his post-Hollywood life has been anything but idle. Far from fading into obscurity, Caruso has reinvented himself as an art dealer, opening a gallery in Westlake Village, Los Angeles. He also owns multiple businesses and is a co-owner of Steam on Sunset, a trendy California clothing store. It’s a far cry from his days patrolling Miami’s fictional beaches, but he’s found success in a completely different arena—this time, on the opposite coast.
