DDEC invites art entrepreneurs to “Música Exporta” event

The Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC, in Spanish) and its Trade and Export Program (PCE, in Spanish) invite musical artists to participate in “Música Exporta 2024,” which will be held May 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Puerto Rico Convention Center, to provide them with tools that will allow them to strengthen their industry and export.

“Puerto Rico has immense musical talent, from emerging musicians to established talents. This event is aimed at members of this industry who need support to develop, market, capitalize their businesses, generate more value, legal protection and export their creations to other markets in a competitive manner. We invite you to participate and take advantage of all the information provided by experts in the field,” said Manuel Cidre, secretary of the DDEC.

“We want to provide new opportunities for the development of more local businesses in the music sector and areas related to the entertainment industry. Not only because they are part of our culture and promote it, but also because they have the potential to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs for local workers and suppliers related to this industry that each year contributes more than $2 billion to the economy,” said Cidre.

For her part, PCE Director Soraya Morón explained that the event will feature speakers Marcos Sánchez a music producer, Emilio Morales of Rimas publishing, Attorney Yira Santiago, a copyright expert and Carlos Fontán, director of the DDEC Incentives Office, who will share with the public valuable topics aimed at the development of the music industry.

These include a main focus on producing music locally, production and export, collaboration and communication, changes in the industry, tips for emerging artists, publishing, exploring international markets, royalties, registration, copyrights, legal protection, digital rights and economic incentives available.
