A celebration of Indigenous people through art is set to take place in Downtown Bangor at the end of this month.
The Wabanaki Art Market is an opportunity to explore the local Native American Culture “through shared stories, skillful artistry, and inspired craftsmanship.”
According to their Event Page, The Wabanaki Art Market will take place on November 30th from 10 AM in Downtown Bangor during Small Business Saturday, at the Wabanaki Health and Wellness Center located at 16 Central Street.
Dozens of members of the Passamaquoddy Tribes, the Penobscot Nation, the Maliseet Nation, and Mi’kmaq Nation are expected to attend and bring a variety of different handmade wares.
“Offering both functional and decorative items, the market is an immersive celebration of Wabanaki traditions and creativity. It will showcase a variety of handcrafted goods including traditional beaded jewelry, sea glass art, ribbon skirts, and dreamcatchers, as well as more modern items, like sublimation mugs, sweatshirts, hoodies, and tote bags that bring cultural art into everyday life.”
Since taking over the old Epic Sports building in 2023, the folks at Wabanaki Health and Wellness have been working to help educate folks about Indigenous culture.
